TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Anthony Fernandez, of Grand Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank of Demerara, was remanded to prison Thursday, on a charge of illegal possession of ammunition. Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Tuesday, October 29, at Moblissa, Soesdyke/Linden Highway; he had three live 12-gauge cartridges, without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, told the court that ranks, acting on information, went to Moblissa and contacted the defendant, in whose presence, a search yielded the rounds.
Fernandez said it was after he left home that morning that police arrested him and took him to his employer’s farm where the ammunition was found but it did not belong to him.
Based on his claim, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf but the prosecutor, successfully, objected to bail for him, stating that he did not provide any special reason for the grant.
After bail was refused him, the defendant’s case was transferred to Christianburg Court, Upper Demerara River, for November 5.
