Guyana’s newest centenarian-Ismay Arthur

GUYANA’s newest centenarian is Ms. Ismay Arthur, who hails from the village of Plaisance on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).

altMs. Arthur who was born on September 29, 1913 celebrated this milestone at the Eddie Grant Research Centre, Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.
Present at a party hosted for her were six of her nine children 27 grand children, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
When the Guyana Chronicle visited the centre, Ms. Arthur was smiling and all joyful to see her family and to have celebrated her 100th birthday.
When she was asked, what was the secret to her longevity and healthy life; she replied: “When I was younger I did not wild about the place and I use a lot of coconuts. People say that too much coconuts is not good for you but they are wrong it is the most healthiest,”alt
Meanwhile, speaking with this publication was the youngest daughter Hazel David who said her mother is her most prized possession right now and she thanks God every day for her. She added that without her mum, her life would not be the way it is today.
Hazel further elaborated that her mum was always nice, caring and would show anyone love no matter what they did.
Ismay Arthur is hoping that she will live to see another one hundred years but noted that God is always in control of her life and he will continue to guide and protect her.
The birthday celebration saw glowing speeches from various persons.
