GCABanks Malta U-13 GYO crowned champs

GANDHI Youth Organisation (GYO) last Saturday adorned themselves in glory, when they won the Georgetown Cricket Association Banks Malta Supreme U-13 25 overs competition, after defeating Transport Sports Club (TSC) by 45 runs in the final on their home ground.
Asked to bat first by their guests, GYO posted 320 off their allocated overs but lost 5 wickets which reduced their eventual total to 270 after they were inserted by TSC in front of a small but

vocal crowd.
Pradesh Balkishun top scored with 21, while Anil Singh 15, Chandra Mohan 11 and Robin Williams 10 supported well, after Alex Rogers (09) and Anil Singh featured in a third wicket stand 27 which steadied the host innings.

Balkishun and Mohan then beefed up the total with a last wicket stand of 37, even as Toney Singh, Joel Spooner, Randy Persaud and Ronald Jaisingh picked up 1 wicket each for TSC, who started their reply cautiously.
Their batsmen rotated the strike well and managed to keep their wickets intact, but Balkishun brought GYO back into the contest with a three wicket haul, conceding 9 runs from his three overs in the process.
His efforts were mainly responsible for TSC being restricted to 285-6 in 25 overs but finished on 225 after the deduction for dismissals were made, which was 10 runs for each wicket lost by any side batting in the competition.
Adrian Hinds led with 21 and Mark Baptiste 09, the pair added 39 for the last wicket, as Mahendra Dindyal and Danesh Alli backed up Balkishun with one wicket each.
Both teams received trophies while members of both teams were given medals, Balkishun collected the prizes for the best batsman, bowler and Most Valuable Player in the final and Hinds received the best fielder award.
Elnathan Suknanand took the trophy for the best bowling performance in the competition (6-6), Hinds collected the prize for the best batsman in the tournament, Sachin Premchand of Everest grabbed the award for picking up the most wickets while the most outstanding all-rounder accolade went to Nicholas Sattaur (61 runs and 8 wickets).
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, GCA’s President Roger Harper thanked Banks DIH for their support and congratulated GYO, adding that they played well through out the tournament, while he also paid tribute to TSC.
Banks DIH’s Communications Manager  Troy Peters said, that the company is pleased to be associated with cricket at this level, adding how happy they are with the commitment shown by the youngsters and hope that they can grow from strength to strength.
He urged the players to remain discipline, highlighting the importance of same in their lives, while he called on the coaches to continue working with the players and wish them well in the future.
As he had done over the years, vice president of the GYO Attorney-at-Law Khemraj Ramjattan donated books to players from both teams and urged them to take their education seriously.
