Assuria successfully corners Guyana market : –sees phenomenal growth in just over a year

ASSURIA Guyana General and Life Insurance Companies officially announced on Friday that they have relocated their head office operations from Lot 133 Church Street to the DFLSA Building at Lot 38 Church Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown.

With this move has come another signature accomplishment for the insurance company, which has been operating in Guyana for approximately 18 months: The launching of its Motor Insurance Division at the new location.

Assuria Guyana General and Life Insurance Companies commenced business in Guyana on March 31, 2012, and so successful has business been for them in just over one year that the company has literally outgrown its Upper Church Street accommodation and has opted to move to a bigger facility.

The Assuria management has said the decision to relocate has been brought about because of surprising growth in its first year of operation. Moreover, the move is linked to Assuria’s expansion plans, which aim at providing more insurance products in the Guyana Market.

In brief remarks to invitees at Friday’s launching ceremony for the Motor Insurance Division, Assuria’s General Manager, Mr. Dick Wesenhagen, said the move is primarily aimed at providing a better service to the public.

“We are proud to present this premises to you…
“This is an important milestone for Assuria Life (Gy) Inc. and Assuria General (Gy) Inc., as it reflects stability and confidence, ensuring continuous growth of the companies by providing excellent quality products and outstanding services for Guyana.

“We had to do this to be able to provide better service to the public, and to also expand our product,” the general manager said. He said the facility provides offices and accommodation for staff, clients and agents, with facilities for business growth, and the new premises would present a unique image of the two companies.

Wesenhagen said that, ideally, relocation to a bigger and more strategic location has the following added advantages: The Sales Force, Services Departments and Corporate Management are now in one location. The location affords customers ample parking spaces right at the doorstep; and the location is conveniently located in Central Georgetown, next to two important landmarks: the Non-Aligned Monument and the St. George’s Cathedral, among other things.
Touching on benefits that would accrue to customers, Wesenhagen said that, with the launch of its Motor Division, Assuria General (Gy) Inc. would offer the Guyanese market competitive rates and flexible premium payment options.

Assuria would also differentiate itself, he said, from other motor insurance companies by offering many policy features based on the needs of the customer.”

Wesenhagen also promised introduction of an extensive assortment of new products, while offering competitive rates. “We are determined to run the business in a transparent and efficient manner,” he affirmed.

Agency Manager Mr. Erwin Daniels recalled that when Assuria entered the Guyana market one and a half years ago, they started with ‘zero policy’, but took some bold and innovative action along the way and realized progress. The achievement being celebrated at this time is one such milepost, he added.

And Company Director Sunial Persad, in an invited comment, asserted: “With this kind of operation, we want to just show the people of Guyana that we are here to stay, and not just come and eventually go. We are here to stay! We started here from scratch, zero, and if you look at our expansion, business has turned out to be better than we had expected.”

Assuria (Gy), Guyana’s newest insurance company, offers insurance against fire and related perils; contractors’ insurance; bonds; pensions; accidents and liabilities; life insurance; annuities; major medicals international, and travel motor insurance to drive in Suriname.

Assuria has also set up a vibrant insurance company in Trinidad and Tobago, operating under the name Gulf Insurance, and now has a presence in twelve countries of the Caribbean.
In the spirit of good corporate citizenship, Assuria (Gy) has already made thoughtful contribution to community service. Staff of Assuria recently embarked on painting the Zebra Crossing on North Road, outside the Bank of Guyana, as well as on Carmichael St., not far from the company’s present location.

Additionally, at Friday’s launch, there were two presentations. Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Stephen Smith, presented a motor certificate to the company’s first motor client, Mr. M. Mohan; while Agency Secretary Ms. Laksmie Singh presented the Assuria Handbook to Chief Librarian Ms. Gillian Thompson.
