Nine receive GNNL annual bursary awards

NINE children who did well at their end-of-year examinations last term were yesterday each awarded a bursary, complements of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited.

altFifteen children were initially eligible for the assistance, but the parents of only nine children followed through with the prerequisite for accessing the bursary.
Except for Anarese Walls, who recently wrote the National Grade Six Assessment Examination and was successful, the other eight persons have been receiving their bursary awards over the years for their performances at the National Grade Six Assessment examinations, and the Guyana National Newspapers Limited will continue to partly sponsor them for a five-year period.
In addition to Anarese, the other recipients are Okeisha Murle, Andre Walls, Joseph Gibbons, Aba Crawford, Bevan Murle, Chesney Akeena, Kinsell Mark and Akash Persaud.
The persons have been receiving the bursary over the years, and one of the main criteria is for their parents to supply the GNNL with the child’s report cards at the end of the school year.

Speaking at the simple but significant ceremony yesterday at the Guyana Chronicle’s head office in Bel Air Park, Georgetown, General Manager Nandkumar Puran encouraged the students to continue excelling and performing satisfactorily at their examinations in order to achieve success in the long run.alt
He added that with hard work and dedication come success, and reminded the children’s parents that they have a part to play in the school and in mentoring of their children’s lives.
Assistant Administrative Manager of the Guyana Chronicle, Colin Alfred, reminded that the award has been ongoing for some time, and the GNNL intends to continue the initiative. He added that the company would like to reach to the stage where it can increase the amount given to a child each year, but while that is the company’s intention, it can only be realised with increased sales of the Chronicle newspapers.
At the moment, the Guyana Chronicle has the largest circulation figure, especially on Sundays.
