He said, within recent times, there have been many incidents in which unsuspecting citizens were being robbed of jewellery, especially gold, while traversing the busy vicinity in the day as well as in the night.
Victims are often surprised by one or more men, who would, quickly, snatch their gold chains and escape and, in some instances, persons were injured when they tried to ward off their attackers, Josiah said.
Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle, he said the deployment of resources is according to the assessment of a particular area in which crimes are committed.
Some charges
Josiah said ranks are placed in both plainclothes and uniforms to patrol and persons have come forward to file reports of robberies and the police have laid some charges.
However, he encouraged more victims to report all acts of robberies at the mobile outpost that is, strategically, located at the Stabroek Market Square.
Such reports will be filtered through to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Brickdam.
Josiah said the outpost operates on a 24-hour basis and, when serious crimes are reported, they are acted upon.
He pointed out that they have made several arrests and the police will maintain their presence in the area.
Over the past weeks, many women passing through there were robbed by identifiable male suspects, who made good their escape after grabbing jewellery, handbags and other valuables.
