Baby in septic tank cause of death ‘undetermined’, pathologist finds

A post-mortem performed by government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh on the body of the baby found in the septic tank at Victoria Street, Albouystown, Georgetown last Wednesday gave the cause of death as undetermined, police reported Monday.

The remains of a decomposing new born baby was discovered in Victoria Street, Albouystown after a dog was observed playing with a hand it had ripped from the body which was in a septic tank.

At Lot 133 Victoria Street, Albouystown, a female occupant of the house told reporters that a stench had been emanating from somewhere but she was unsure of the source.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said that she burned incense in an effort to ward off the foul odour but on Tuesday night some neighbours came over and said that a newborn baby was observed in her yard.
The woman then became aware that a newborn baby was abandoned there and the police were summoned to investigate.
She added that it is hard to say where the human remains came from since there was heavy rainfall over the weekend and she could not point out any women who were expecting a baby in the neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, another Albouystown resident, Nigel Willis told the reporters that he was at home where he has a vibrant kitchen garden and observed his dog playing with something looking like a doll.
The man added that when he got a close-up look at it he realised it was a human hand with fingernails intact and fully formed belonging to a baby.
The man said he then called over his neighbours and showed them what he had discovered that Tuesday night.
Willis said, “I feel that is bare wickedness because the baby done big, fully formed and everything and this is wrong and the dog rip it apart and the baby was found near a septic tank next door and my dog bring a piece in my yard.”
Meanwhile, the woman who was suspected to have given birth to the baby was arrested but she has since been released pending investigations.
