Dr. Ramsammy hails NGPC and ‘Bobby’ Ramroop for acquiring Guyana CPL franchise

AGRICULTURE Minister Dr.Leslie Ramsammy has extended congratulations to the New Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation (NGPC) and Dr. ‘Bobby’ Ramroop on his acquisition of the Guyana franchise of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and as the sponsor of CPL. altIn a press statement yesterday, Dr. Ramsammy said through CPL, Limacol as a Guyanese product and NGPC as a Guyanese pharmaceutical company, both with a considerable reputation already, will become better known, with an enhanced reputation, and will become global names.
“CPL will undoubtedly be popular in the Caribbean. But like 20/20 cricket across the world, it is likely to become part of the global popularity of 20/20 cricket. People throughout the Caribbean will be looking at TV and similarly, CPL cricket will be broadcast outside of the Region. Throughout the tournament, Guyana’s Limacol and NGPC will be seen,” said Dr. Ramsammy.

He acknowledged that Dr. Ramroop continues to demonstrate vision and courage in investing his resources and that his success in bidding for the Guyana franchise and  the CPL sponsorship must be commended and be seen as a Guyanese success story.
“I know ‘Bobby’ Ramroop does not look out for recognition. But his success brings pride to Guyana and to all of us. As a citizen of Guyana and as one who holds high office in my country, I am extremely proud that a local company will be on the big stage. In some ways, this success is demonstrative of the far way we have developed as a country and being able to compete with the big businesses of the Caribbean.”
Dr. Ramsammy said it is puzzling to him that a small group in Guyana would wish to see Dr. Ramroop and the NGPC fail and end up like ‘Stanford.’ “I believe it is unbecoming for anyone of us to try to reflect on the success of Dr. Ramroop and NGPC and try to paint this success in a negative way.
“As a Guyanese, I know that I would have been proud of any Guyanese entrepreneur or company that would have won. It is interesting to note that the few who would cast aspersions on the success of the NGPC in being at the very top of making CPL a reality, themselves did not find it possible to try to be a part of the CPL and to be part of the pride that cricket bestows on this nation and on the Region.
“I believe that all Guyana should stand behind Dr. ‘Bobby’ Ramroop and the NGPC and behind CPL. For my part, I offer my absolute congratulations to Dr. ‘Bobby’ Ramroop and to CPL, and I wish everyone to know I am proud to know that a Guyanese company will be a main reason why CPL would ride the rails of success,” Dr. Ramsammy stated.
