Police requested to address Roraima Housing Scheme burglaries – Ministry

THE Ministry of Home Affairs said, yesterday, it has taken note of the fear expressed by residents of Roraima Housing Scheme, at Versailles, West Bank Demerara, with regard to their personal safety and security.

“As the Ministry responsible for the nation’s safety and security, we are concerned that this situation exists and have taken steps to address it,” said a release.
The release added that the Acting Commissioner of Police has been written to, with a request that a proactive approach be taken, immediately, by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), specifically the Divisional Commander and his ranks, so that peace and security could be restored to the residents.
On Tuesday last, several apartments, including that of Chronicle journalist Alex Wayne, were broken into and costly items and articles stolen by burglars who had ample time to even clear out foodstuff from the building.
Most of the occupants were not at home when the burglaries took place but it was not the first time they had been targeted by thieves, who, somehow, gained entry to premises in the gated community.
Since the incidents occurred, security lights were installed and the locks were changed but residents feel more need to be done for their protection and safety.
