Man busted with marijuana at Ogle Airport remanded

NINTEEN-YEAR-OLD Alex Scott, of Baramita, North West District, was remanded to prison on a narcotic possession charge, Thursday.

He appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell and pleaded not guilty to having 64 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) on Wednesday, May 29, at Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara.
Police Sergeant Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, told the Court that the defendant was a passenger of Trans Guyana Airways and, after a search conducted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officers, Scott accepted ownership of the prohibited substance found in a black and white hair food jar.
The case has been transferred to Sparendaam Court, also in the East Demerara jurisdiction, for June 4.
