MACORP and GGDMA to improve handling of Caterpillar equipment

MACHINERY Corporation of Guyana (MACORP) and the Guyana Gold & Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) have committed to working together to improve the management of Caterpillar equipment used in the local gold industry.

The two agencies, with this objective in mind, met on Wednesday for talks led by MACORP General Manager Jorge Medina and President of the GGDMA, Patrick Harding.

According to a MACORP press release, the discussions were very fruitful and led to commitments being made towards the hosting of seminars on how to reduce operating cost for all Caterpillar equipment.

The release also noted that representatives from the GGDMA were given a tour of MACORP’s new training ground which is now open to the public to have hands-on training on excavator operation.

It further stated that the price of gold remains of primary importance to both entities, and towards the financial sustainability of the sector; commitments were also made to enhance skills training with emphasis on equipment maintenance and operation.

MACORP is the only authorized Caterpillar dealer in Guyana and their vision, the release added, is to “provide integrated solutions” to help their stakeholders throughout Guyana succeed in their businesses.
