Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Academy Lodge Secondary play unbeaten to top Group A

TOURNAMENT favourites and defending champions Lodge Secondary trounced Tutorial High 4-1 in their latest fixture for this year’s Scotiabank/Pepsi Football Academy tournament at the Ministry of Education ground last Sunday, keeping their remained unbeaten record intact.

Kevin Boters and Ryan Hackett both had double strikes in the 2nd and 19th, 16th and 55th minutes respectively for Lodge Secondary who moved to 15 points from five matches to top Group ‘A’ with the win, while Steve Sutton scored the lone goal for Tutorial High.
After seeing Charlestown Secondary gain a win from Chase Academic Foundation in the second game, for which the former moved to 12 points, Christ Church Secondary inflicted a 4-0 whipping on Bishops’ High School, thanks to goals from Andre Trotz (26th, 30th), Andre Paul (28th) and Brad Evans in the 61st minute.
Game four saw North Georgetown swamp Queen’s College 5-1, with Nehemiah Gomes scoring a double in the 50th and 57th minutes, backed by strikes from Joshua Farrier (29th), Osafa Matheson (39th) and Lansdale George (45th), with Ashmar Angel replying for QC in the 11th minute of play.
In the mining town of Linden, play was held at the Wisburg Secondary School ground last Wednesday and saw New Silver City Secondary gain a walkover from Harmony Secondary School while McKenzie High School defeated Christianburg/Wismar Secondary 2-1 last Sunday at the same venue.
Preliminary round matches in the Georgetown Zone of the competition will be played tomorrow and the fixtures are as follows:
In Group A School of the Nations who are on 12 points will come up against Tutorial High who have 10 points from 10:00hrs in a male fixture. A draw for School of the Nations will take them to 13 points and a place in the semi-finals, while a win for Tutorial High will see them go on to 13 points and they will book a semi-final place.
At 11:15hrs a female encounter will feature Christ Church who are on 1 point and Tutorial who have four points.
New Campbellville Secondary finished the preliminary round on 10 points and are already through to the final, while Charlestown Secondary finished on 5 points from their 4 games, hence a win for Tutorial will see them move to 7 points and with that a place in the final, while a draw will also do them good since they have a better goal difference than Charlestown Secondary.
At 12:30hrs North Georgetown Secondary and Lodge will square off in a match of academic interest, since Lodge have already booked a place in the semifinals and North Georgetown who are on 9 points, can increase that to 12, if they are the first to inflict a loss on Lodge.
However, that will not be enough to earn them a semifinal place, since School of the Nations and Tutorial are in a much better position to qualify for that spot ahead of them.
At 13:45hrs, there will be another male clash between Charlestown Secondary and Bishops’ High, where a win for the former will see them top the group with 15 points, while a loss will leave them locked on second place with Christ Church who also have 12 points, but with the advantage of having a better goal difference.
On Sunday, the semifinals in the Georgetown zone will be contested at the same venue, with Lodge Secondary taking on either Christ Church or Charlestown Secondary in the first matchup from 11:30hrs, followed by Charlestown Secondary taking on either Christ Church or School of the Nations in the second semifinal from 13:00hrs.
