Legal steps being taken for name changes in security sector

The new names for the security sector are expected to be The Guyana Prison and Correctional Service, the Guyana Police Service and the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is seeking to modernise and transform the Disciplined Services which includes the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) and the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) and Minster Clement Rohee had announced that a name change was in order for these agencies.

The Home Affairs Minister, however, told reporters yesterday outside the ministry following the presentation of vehicles and motorcycles to the GPS that he is unsure of the mode of the opposition since the bills are sitting in Parliament.

Rohee said that they will ensure that legal steps are taken to facilitate the name change of the organisations listed.

The minister added that the reforms to the security sector are being pushed by the government and they are awaiting the next sitting of Parliament for an outcome.
