In a memo circulated to all staff members last Thursday, the Personnel Officer advised that the administration regretted the inconvenience caused by the late payment of salaries. The university’s staff members are customarily paid on the third Thursday of every month, but Walcott’s memo informed that staffers would not be paid on time this month.
Walcott said that staff members’ payment was dependent on timely disbursement of monies to the university, which is not outstanding until after Tuesday next, according to details of the arrangement. He pointed out that over 500 academic and non-academic staff members have been affected, and advised that part-time lecturers, who are paid on a quarterly basis, will also be affected.
It is understood that the institution is being operated with limited finances, according to Walcott, and it is trying to manage those efficiently.
