PPP congress set for August in Region 6

PREPARATIONS are well under way for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Congress to be held at the JC Chandisingh Secondary School in Port Mourant, Berbice from August 2 to August 4. A media briefing at Freedom House yesterday saw Executive Secretary Zulfikar Mustapha relate that the congress was a topic for discussion when the Central Committee of the party met last Saturday. He said this 30th congress is expected to be one of the largest ever, and will be attended by delegates and observers from across the country.
In addition, he said, a much-anticipated element of the congress is the election of a new central committee for the party.

Highlight of the congress will be the report of the party’s general secretary, President Donald Ramotar.

This will be the first congress at which both Dr. Cheddi Jagan and Mrs. Janet Jagan, the founders of the PPP, would be absent.
