Guyana’s marksmen clash with Great Britian shooters today

A TEAM of Guyana’s top rifle shooters will engage a touring team from Great Britain today in a five-range Rifle Shooting competition that will be hosted at the Timehri Ranges over the next two days. The action gets under way at 13:00hrs when the first of two ranges will be shot then the other range is scheduled to commence at 15:00hrs.
The visiting team consists of some top marksmen and women, who arrived last night from Jamaica where they challenged a team from the ‘Land of Springs’. After they depart Guyana on Saturday, they head for the Twin-Island Republic (T&T) then the ‘Land of the Flying Fish’ (Barbados) to conclude their tour.
In Barbados, they will meet Guyana once again with the West Indies Full Bore Shooting Championships set to take place.
“We, the ‘Land of Many Waters’ have five of the last six titles in the Fullbore Shooting contests, which deems us to arguably be the best in the Caribbean.
Yesterday at a simple press briefing at Olympic House attended by executives of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA), inclusive of Guyana’s newly crowned champion, Ransford Goodluck.
According to GNRA vice-president Paul Slowe, even though it is known that Guyana’s shooters are the best it leaves no room for complacency.
He said their preparations have been auspicious and this contest between them and the Great Britain will serve as a prep event for the Fullbore Championships.
The GB and Guyanese shooters will be in action in individual competition at the 300 and 900 yards ranges today while tomorrow they will battle at the 500, 600 and 1000 yards ranges. The two teams will contest a Team match on Thursday over the 300, 600 and 900 yards ranges.
The Guyana squad to be captained by Persaud will include vice-captain Dylan Fields, current Caribbean individual champion Lennox Braithwaite, Ransford Goodluck, Ryan Sampson, Dane Blair, Leo Romalho, Lt. Col. Terrence Stuart, Paul Slowe, Charles Deane, Peter Persaud and Everad Nelson.
