altBeaton noted too that they are working towards competence through training and collaborating with other agencies to defend national security. In this regard they are in the process of developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint operations of the Floating Base located in the Pomeroon River.
He asserted that as they strive to improve their operational capabilities they are willing to work collaboratively. Beaton also urged the ranks to exercise ownership of the facilities and asked that they read books to gain wisdom, understanding and knowledge for self-improvement and growth.
Meanwhile, Reverend Sills in his sermon encouraged the ranks to embrace their past for future development and to look inside them and tap into what is there for both job and personal uplift. He also called on them to put God in the centre of their lives for successes.alt
During his sermon yesterday, he also pleaded with those gathered to act responsibly and to take time to think, and to be selfless, confident, hopeful, and understanding, while adding value to the lives of the people around them.
The church service ended with more songs, hymns, and prayers as the Colour Party received the flag from the Force Chaplain and marched out in slow time.
Also present at the ceremony was Minister of Public Service, Dr. Jennifer Westford, who donated a quantity of books to talthe Coast Guard Library. She then urged all the ranks to make use of the library by reading the books and promised to donate magazines for them.
Westford added that the continuing collaboration with the ministry and the GDF will be enhanced through training, among others activities. The books donated range from general subjects to engineering, marine, boating, and other areas. The books were handed over to the GDF Chief Librarian, Jewel Gibson.
Officer-in-Charge, Colonel Coast Guard John Flores, in brief remarks highlighted the benefits of reading and requested that the books be used within the library.
