Husband fined, bonded for wife assault

SHERWIN Hackett (no address given) pleaded guilty to unlawful assault when he made an appearance before Magistrate Alex Moore at Sparendaam Court, East Coast Demerara, yesterday.

The defendant admitted that, on Tuesday, February 26, at ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Onika Hackett.
Cadet Officer Fredella Boyce, prosecuting, explained that the defendant and the virtual complainant are husband and wife.
The prosecutor said, that day, there was an argument between the two and the defendant dealt his wife a few slaps.
The husband told the court that, whenever he gets home from work, he always finds his wife at the neighbour and chores in their house unfinished.
The defendant was fined $20,000 with the alternative of one month imprisonment and bonded to keep the peace.
