Gun, ammunition stolen during robbery recovered

THE police have disclosed that the .38 revolver, reported to have been taken away from a private security guard during an attempted robbery at Gold Mines Corporation Arakaka Mining Camp, North West District, last February 23, was recovered on Tuesday along with two rounds.

The firearm and ammunition were handed over to the police by a member of the public, who is assisting with the investigations, a release stated.
Previously, at about 03:00 hrs on February 23, Gold Mines Corporation Administrator Christopher Mann, 26, of Bon Fin, Brazil, said he was in the camp when confronted by two men who demanded gold. A scuffle ensued, during which he was shot by the men who escaped.
Mann was taken to Matthews Ridge Hospital, also in North West District but was subsequently, transferred to the city for further treatment.
Police said the armed security guard at the mining camp, who is attached to a private security service, was attacked and his service .38 revolver and six rounds taken away by his attackers.
