Four Colombian women fined for entering Guyana illegally

FOUR Colombian women appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley yesterday, charged with entering Guyana illegally.

The defendants, Dallany Murillo Silva, Diana Guerrero, Patricia Quinonez and Gladys Cuero, all pleaded guilty to individual charges.
The charge against Silva said, on October 10, 2012, at Charity, Essequibo Coast, she came into the country by sea, disembarked and did not present herself to the nearest immigration office.
In the case of Guerrero, it was stated that she crossed the land frontier at Lethem, Rupununi, on August 14, 2012 and did not report to nearest immigration office.
With respect to Quinonez, it is alleged that, on October 8, 2012, she arrived by sea, as well, disembarked but did not go to the nearest immigration office.
Cuero also made entry by sea, on February 2, 2013, disembarked and did not present herself to the nearest immigration office.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat, who represented the quartet, asked the court be lenient with them and they were all fined $30,000 each with the alternative of six months imprisonment.
