$6.5M store burglary accused remanded

VICKY Souffrien, 20, of Lot 66 Hunter Street, Albouystown, Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley yesterday, charged with break and enter and larceny.

The indictable charge said that, on July 23, 2012, he broke and entered Household Plus store and stole a quantity of electronic appliances and clothing, valued a total of $6.5M.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the accused, stating that he has more cases pending in other courts, for offences, allegedly committed while he was at liberty.
The prosecutor said it is likely that if Souffrien was allowed freedom, he would commit other crimes and the magistrate remanded him to prison until March 7.
Earlier, attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson claimed Souffrien has no criminal conviction and that the police found none of the booty in the possession of the latter.
The lawyer also complained that the accused had been kept in custody for four days and, with no alternative, police decided to charge him.
It is surprising that police allege the accused fetched 20 big televisions, Thompson said.
