Miners injured as boats collide at 99 Turns, North West district.

SEVERAL miners coming out from Port Kaituma, North West District, Region 1, were seriously injured Monday after two boats crashed head on at 99 Turns near Moruca. Reports from the area said the miners were in one of the boats coming out from the interior while another group in another boat was going up to Port Kaituma for the interior when collided.
According to reports, the boats were driven by high powered outboard engines and broke into pieces on impact in the narrow river that has very sharp turns.

Several miners who suffered broken legs and hands and other injuries were taken to the Moruca hospital. One miner was rushed to Charity, while another to the Suddie Public Hospital.

Reports said passengers from the two boats and their luggage were hurled into the river and nearby bushes as the boats collided.
A miner named, Gregory said he was to travel on the boat from Port Kaituma, but, through “God’s intervention”, he was put off the trip and instead travelled hours after. Gregory said when his boat passed the 99 Turns in the area he saw several pieces of the two boats floating in the water and several of the miners he knew trying to get their luggage from the river.
