For better service delivery… Boats, engines, equipment handed over in Region 2

GOVERNMENT, through the regional administration of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has donated five outboard ‘Yamaha’ engines and boats to health centres in the Lower and Upper Pomeroon River, to boost the delivery of health care to residents.

altRegional Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud, who handed over the engines, boats and other equipment, to workers at Hackney, Friendship, Mora, Wakapoa and Charity, said the exercise is an ongoing one as government is always pushing to have quality and efficent health services delivered to people in remote and riverain communities across the country.
He said the request for the improved delivery of services was made at community meetings where government officials addressed residents on various matters of national interest in the Pomeroon.
Persaud cautioned health workers that the engines and boats must be used for the delivery of services to residents and not for any other purposes.
He also announced that another two engines and boats will be presented to Capoey and Mashabo shortly, also to improve health care delivery while Dredge Creek Primary School is to receive an engine to assist students travelling to and from school.
Regional Executive Officer (REO), Mr. Sunil Singh, said the engines and boats were acquired, through a tender process, under the region’s capital programme for 2012.
Of the five wooden boats, three are 16 feet long while two are 25 feet in length, with some engines of 15 horse power (hp) capacity and two of 25 hp.
Singh said health workers in the areas have always complained about lack of transportation to do home visits and demanded improved services with the new boats and engines.
