MINISTER of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, has advised that the mobile pumps which are expected to aid in drainage are ready to be shipped but are awaiting inspection in Miami, Florida, in the United States (U.S.).
He said, any time in the next few days, the engineers would be going to Miami to

check the pumps before they are shipped to make sure they are in accordance with the specifications.
In a recent interview with the Guyana Chronicle, the minister explained that there are two sets of pumps, mobile and fixed ones, in the total of 14, being acquired through a US$4M line of credit from India, that will be used for drainage purposes.
Ramsammy emphasised that the six mobile pumps that are ready to be shipped are awaiting the ministry’s go-ahead.
He said the fixed pumps are being fabricated in India and engineers will be going there, sometime in December, to carry out their inspection on those.
Subsequent to the inspection exercise,the shipping of those pumps is expected to begin towards the end of January.
Ramsammy had, previously, stated that, although the first set of pumps to arrive will be the mobile type, at least three will be placed in fixed positions until the other eight come.
He pointed out that the pumps will be placed in various areas countrywide, such as Windsor Forest, Albion, Rose Hall and Crabwood Creek.
In addition, the minister said the drainage system will receive a great boost with the acquisition of those pumps and the pumping of water will become a major activity of the Ministry of Agriculture.
