Sunrise Cricket Club to tour Guyana from September 27

IN keeping with its rich established tradition, the Sunrise Cricket Club (SCC) of New York in partnership with EZjet Airline makes another of its tours abroad. This year, 2012, SCC returns to Guyana after a four-year sabbatical.
Team Sunrise will tour from September 26 to October 3, 2012. During this stay, Sunrise will engage longstanding local cricket teams, with an eye towards fostering new relationships and will take on, in its opener, Jai-Hand Cricket Club of Albion, followed by Windsor Forest CC, then Sterling Products LLC and in its final match, will tackle a combined Georgetown Secondary Schools in a T20 affair.
The SCC has organised this tour with emphasis on focusing attention to reaffirm its commitment to continue to build on its rich tradition of cricket tours to Guyana.
Over the years, we have seen the overwhelming support local fans in and out of Guyana have shown team Sunrise. Although this tour is spread over 7 short days, fans in Berbice, Georgetown, East Bank and West Bank of the Demerara River will see the lads in all their glory.
However, the local teams will have the final say in the outcome of the respective cricket games.
As always, on their agenda, team Sunrise will add a day of volunteering at a local charity – details have not been fully disclosed.
Leading the Sunrise Cricket organisation for this tour and going forward is the new club vice-president, 25-year-old Joshua ‘Josh’ Harbajan. Josh, as he is known in the cricketing circles in and around Queens, New York, has taken on a much grander role in a leadership capacity of Sunrise.
Josh was born in New York City, and attended Long Island University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology.
He is currently employed by a Long Island Jewish Hospital. Young Josh has been involved with cricket since the tender age of 5 years old. He took on a more active role in his own Universal Cricket Club at age 16, where he is considered, with the help of his dad, Shree Harbajan, a one-man show.
More recently, Josh has demonstrated the same leadership qualities with his adopted club, Sunrise.
As a result, Sunrise board of trustees voted to give the vice-president role and title to Josh Harbajan.
In speaking to Sunrise press, VP Josh stated his goal is to continue the family and friendly atmosphere that Sunrise has had for many years, also to continue to bring competitive cricket teams and most importantly give the youths exposure to all of Sunrise games.  In addition, I am looking forward to my first overseas cricket tour.
The SCC selectors will be announcing the team tomorrow.
