In Region Nine… Preparations for school reopening on track

PREPARATIONS for the opening of the new school year are on track in Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo), Regional Education Officer (REO) Ms. Urline Crandon has assured.
She told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that, throughout this week, teachers are at the various schools in the region, conducting orientation exercises to facilitate the intake of new students.
According to her, the coming year will see the opening of a new secondary school in Sand Creek Village, and there is an addition to the annex of Katoka Primary School in Central Lethem, Rupununi.
Crandon said schools in the region have already received text books from the Ministry of Education, and these would be readily available to the students when the academic year commences.
She reported that the different school compounds are each in sanitary condition, and each school has sufficient furniture for the students.
However, Crandon admitted that schools in the region are not all fully staffed.  In that regard, applications are currently being processed to facilitate the employment of additional teachers.
The new academic year is scheduled to commence on Monday, September 3, 2012.
