Prosecution closes case in Barbot Paul murder trial

PROSECUTORS Renita Singh and Konyo Sandiford in the Barbot Paul murder trial are likely to close their case today, after prosecution star witness Miss Nazeema Persaud completed her evidence yesterday. The accused, Dwight Da Silva, is indicted with Paul’s murder, said to have been committed on August 6, 2006.
In her opening address to the jury, the prosecutor had remarked that, “this is a case of robbery committed by gun-toting bandits, who robbed Barbot Paul and his family of their belongings at their shop and home, located at Second Field, Kaneville, Grove, East Bank, Demerara.
“If, at the end of hearing all of the evidence of this case, you have reasonable doubt — that is, you are not sure that the accused did in fact murder Barbot Paul — then all you have to do is to acquit him of the offence and send him home.
“But if you are sure that the accused is responsible for the death of Barbot Paul, then you must find him guilty of the crime.”
