‘Lil rum’ causes Annandale son to cutlass whip mother for $300

AN injured Annandale mother was forced to summon the police to arrest her son after he allegedly assaulted her about the body with a cutlass. A sombre-looking Imran Khan was subsequently charged with assaulting his mother, Ms. Seeta Khan, when he appeared before Cove and John Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin.
Asked the reason(s) for his actions, Khan told the magistrate that he had ‘lil rum’ in his head when he went home and pushed the door, hitting his mother’s foot. He alleged that she became annoyed by this and went to the police.
However, Police Prosecutor Graham interjected to tell the court that the defendant’s claim differed from the complainant’s facts. According to the prosecutor, on the day in question, Imran Khan went home under the influence and asked his mother for some food and three hundred dollars. As she was about to give him the food, minus the $300, he picked up a cutlass and threatened her. In a bid to escape his fury, the mature woman ran into a bedroom; but her son pursued her, pushed the door, hitting her left foot, and then physically assaulted her with the cutlass.
Khan subsequently pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was released on $45,000 bail.
