Wins for CBR Mining Milerock and Topp XX
CBR Mining Milerock hammered Winners Connection 5-1, while Bakewell Topp XX topped Amelia’s Ward United 4-3, as play in the Thomas United Mashramani Anniversary football championship continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden Tuesday night.
Playing in the first game of the double-header CBR Milerock proved superior against Winners Connection as they were led to an emphatic win through some incisive displays by their strike force.
National youth player Ryan Crandon opened the scoring for CBR Mining Milerock, doing so in the third minute. The score read 2-0 in favour of the eventual winners when Jermaine McBean found the back of the net six minutes after Crandon’s strike.
However, Carl David reduced the deficit to one for Winners Connection, when he found the back of the net in the 29th minute and with no more goals materialising in the first half, that score line read 2-1 in favour of CBR Mining Milerock.
Trevor Tudor’s double which was scored in the 64th and 66th minutes, coupled with Ron Fiedtkou’s strike four minutes before the full-time whistle was sounded, handed Milerock the win.
In the second game, Topp XX withstood the dangerous spot kicks from Travis Waterton which brought goals for Amelia’s Ward in the 19th and 36th minutes, to come away with a nail-biting 4-3 victory that was achieved in extra time.
Marlon Cox opened the scoring for Topp XX, when he found the back of the net in the 10th minute, but Waterton’s brace, with the first coming from a wonderful taken free kick from outside the 18-yard box, saw Amelia’s Ward ahead just before lemon time.
However, Colwyn David levelled the scores for his team when he slapped home a good shot from close range in the 40th minute but again Amelia’s Ward responded and regained the lead from a Shawn Daniels strike.
One minute later and David who had a double earlier in the day playing for Linden Technical Institute in the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Schools football championship, repeated his feat when he gained his second goal in the 65th minute as the scores were knotted at 3, forcing the game into extra time.
But Keon Sears ensured victory for Topp XX when he slammed home a penalty which was awarded following a ‘handled ball’ by Amelia’s Ward’s Kevon Plowell who tried to clear same in the box, with Sears making no mistake from the spot, to hand Topp XX the win.
