President Ramotar invited to Summit of Americas in April

– after meeting OAS Secretary General
SECRETARY General to the Organisation of American States, José Miguel Insulza, extended, on his own behalf, congratulations to Guyana’s new President Donald Ramotar during a courtesy call yesterday at the Office of the President, and an invitation for the Guyanese Head of State to be part of the upcoming Summit of the Americas.
The Secretary General, accompanied by his Adviser, Paul Spencer, and OAS Country Representative, Denis Moses, had agreed to a meeting following President Ramotar’s victory at the November 28, 2011 polls.
“We hope that he can reach his goal of achieving more political understanding, of moving the country forward, and we are very supportive of that,” the Secretary General said in an interview with the Government Information Agency.

He said he was pleased at the country’s economic performance, and informed the Guyanese Head of State about the upcoming Summit of the Americas, slated for April 14 and 15 in Colombia.
Several Heads of State have already confirmed their participation, including United States’ President Barack Obama, and Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.
On the agenda will be competiveness, energy, technology, crime, inequality and climate change.
