Illegal gun, ammunition defendant remanded

ODINGO Chase (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday on charges of unlawful possession of a gun and ammunition. Before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry he pleaded not guilty to the offences, particulars of which said, on December 16, he had a .45 ‘Glock’ pistol and four matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Defence counsel, Gordon Gilhuys made a failed bail application, arguing that the firearm was not found on the defendant but on the National Park tarmac during a football match.
The lawyer also complained that the police had detained Chase beyond 72 hours and the magistrate ordered the prosecutor to investigate the complaint.
Chase will make another court appearance on January 5, 2012.
