A large contingent of Guyanese golfers will be travelling to Suriname this weekend for the RBTT/RBC Suriname Open slated for tomorrow and Sunday at the Paramaribo Golf Club. Sixteen local golfers will be making the trip to the neighbouring republic to battle against players from French Guiana, Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles and the host nation.
The team will include four former Guyana Open champions – Mike Mangal, Imran Khan, Alfred Mentore and Mohanlall “Santo” Dinnanauth.
The four players will compete in first (championship) flight for players with handicap 0-9.
The other members of the touring party will include Mike Gayadin, Jerome Khan, William Walker, Esau Shamshudin, John Tracey, Brijlall Harry, Carlos Adams, Kishun Bacchus, Bholawram Deo and Avinda “Ganguly” Kishore.
Officials of the Lusignan Golf Club said they expect the players to perform well as they will be using the tournament to fine tune preparation for the R1 Vodka sponsored Guyana Open slated for October 22-23 at the Lusignan Golf course.
At least 25 foreign players will be here for the Guyana Open including a contingent from Suriname as well as golfers from the United States and Canada.
Meanwhile, preparations are moving apace for the Guyana Open and the Digicel two-day Classic.
The Classic will take place on October 15 and 16 at Lusignan.
