‘Red Dragon’ owner on prostitution charge

THE owner of Red Dragon night club in Robb Street, Georgetown, was yesterday charged with procuring a woman to become a common prostitute.
Raymond Alli, 59, the second such proprietor to appear before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on consecutive days,
was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which stated that, between the month of November 2010 and June 29, 2011, at Red Dragon, he procured Leanaro Olivieira to become a common prostitute.
Defence counsel Vic Puran requested reasonable bail, noting that the accused was released from the Police Station on a $25,000 bond.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, offered no objection but requested that the sum be substantial to ensure that Alli returns for trial and he was ordered to post $250,000 until September 22.
On Tuesday, Brazilian Maria Mascimento, 39, of Lot 33 Cummings Street, Alberttown, in Georgetown, was also slapped with similar charges, accusing her of procuring five different women, at Club Coca Cabana, for the same purpose.
She was put on $1M bail and her case, as well, will be called again on September 22.
