Driver allowed bail for causing death, in further trouble

MAHANDRA Rananan called ‘Bangat’, who was recently allowed bail by the Chief Justice for the offence of causing death by dangerous driving, has been subjected to further charges and a call by the DPP to take him off the road.
The accused was first refused bail when he appeared before a Berbice magistrate on an indictable charge on the 20th June, 2011.

Later, he applied for bail in the High Court, and was refused bail by Chief Justice Ian Chang.
Subsequently, the accused again applied for bail in the High Court which was opposed by the State.
On that occasion, the accused was granted bail in the sum of $380, 000.
Following this incident, it was discovered that the accused was an unlicensed driver and that the licence he produced at the time of the accident, was a licence which was issued to another person.
As a result of this further development, the DPP has sent out instructions to the police and the  public to look out for the accused and to have him arrested if he is seen driving a vehicle, since he does not appear to be a licensed driver.
