Local Gov’t Ministry appoints new health coordinator

–to better services in regions
A new health coordinator, Davin Washington, has been appointed by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development to boost the delivery of health care in the administrative regions.

The new coordinator is tasked with strengthening the operations between the Ministries of Health and Local Government. Another coordinator was also appointed to provide similar functions, but for the Education Ministry.
Minister within the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran, explained that this step was taken since it has been recognised that there are inadequacies in coordinating initiatives from the central ministry to the regions.
It is hoped that with the availability of the health coordinator, services relating to the health sector will be carried out more efficiently.
Minister Ramsaran said that the coordinator will also assist in ensuring persons in the various regions, particularly the outlying communities, access information about medical training opportunities provided by the Health Ministry.
It is hoped that this will result in more persons applying for  training programmes for positions such as nursing assistant, pharmacy assistant, x-ray technician and medical laboratory technician. (GINA)
