Raina not taking Windies lightly

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad CMC – India’s captain Suresh Raina says his under-strength side will look to build on their World Cup success when they face West Indies in the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series.
And despite being labelled as favourites, Raina said they would not be underestimating the hosts.

“We have won the World Cup and now is time to move on and before us is the West Indies series and we have to deal with it as best as we can,” Raina said here.
“The West Indies team have been playing good cricket for the past few months and we are not going to take them lightly. We are very excited to be here in the West Indies to play cricket and let me say that we are going to give of our very best while here.”
India captured the World Cup in April when they beat Sri Lanka in a thrilling final in Mumbai, their second World Cup triumph following their 1983 win over West Indies.
However, India will have to do without several key architects of their World Cup success as legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, regular captain MS Dhoni, opener Virender Sehwag, explosive all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and seamer Zaheer Khan are all missing for various reasons.
Raina said, however, his young team was highly motivated ahead of the limited overs series that will see one Twenty20 International and five one-dayers.
“The Indian Cricket Board has been very kind to the players and have allowed them some rest and we must respect this. Those guys have been performing well for India for quite a long time and they deserve a break,” he noted.
“We have a young team here and they are focused on doing well for India and I am excited to see them perform over the next few weeks.”
India and West Indies clash in the T20I today at Queen’s Park Oval, followed by ODIs at the same venue on Monday and Wednesday.
