Third ADC T20 on today at Albion Sports Club

FOUR teams, three matches, $400 000 and a trophy, and starving cricket  fans! That’s the scene which can be expected at the Albion Sports Club ground today, when the third annual Arrival Day Twenty20 competition bowls off from 09:00hrs. Reigning T20 champions East Berbice Universal DVD Club Titans, led by national skipper Assad Fudadin, will be looking to turn back the challenge of the Leon Johnson-led Georgetown Pitbulls in the first semifinal, while the East Coast Carib Jaguars and West Berbice Super Kings will meet in the second semifinal, with the winners clashing in the final later in the day.
Apart from Fudadin, the East Berbice Universal DVD Club Titans lineup also includes the hard-hitting Jonathan Foo, who took the Caribbean by storm in the inaugural West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) regional T20 tournament last year, Royston Crandon, Richard Ramdeen and Sewnarine Chattergoon.
There is also Narsingh Deonarine, Farouk Hussain, Rajiv Ivan and Troy Matheison, batsmen who are capable of destroying any local bowling attack on their day and with a bowling lineup that includes Michael Newland, Yogindra Harrinarine and Kevin Ramdeen, they will start as favourites against their City-based opponents.
On the other side of the coin, the Pitbulls will be hungry for revenge having lost their last T20 encounter to the said opponents in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-organised, Digicel-sponsored T20 tournament last year, one that was used as a yardstick to select the national team for this year’s Caribbean T20.
Therefore, Johnson and company would be wary of the Ancient County team, who have dominated all forms of cricket on the local scene last year, irrespective of the division, and from all indications seem set to do so again this year.
Therefore, Johnson would be looking to Christopher Barnwell, who had a successful debut for the West Indies in their lone T20 game against Pakistan one week ago, Shemroy Barrington, Rawle Browne, Jamal Hinckson and Robin Bacchus to put some runs on the tins.
Their bowling will be led by left-arm fast bowler Andre Stoll, with support from Barnwell, Trevon Garraway, Raj Nanan, Totaram Bishun and Paul Wintz, who are all capable bowlers in their own rights, but how they fare against the home team is left to be seen.
In the other matchup, East Coast Carib Jaguars, led by national off-spinner Zaheer Mohammed, will look to turn back the challenge of the West Berbice Super Kings, who will be led by off-spinner Krisendat Ramoo.
Former national Under-19 off-spinner Clive Andries, Wasim Haslim, Videshwar Lall, Leon Scott, Joseph Perry, Troy Gonsalves and Vishnu Ramjit are all expected to offer support to Mohammed with both bat and ball.
The Super Kings’ lineup consists of players who were deemed good enough to represent the Ancient County of Berbice at various levels, with national fast bowler Keon Joseph being the man to watch with the ball today, along with Ramoo.
When they get going, Keith Fraser, Arthley Bailey, Romain Budhram, Eon Abel and Kenje Sedoc who will be playing as a player/coach can post totals that would be insurmountable against any local lineup, which makes this one an interesting battle as well.
With no Ramnaresh Sarwan (recalled to West Indies team), Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Rajendra Chandrika for Georgetown and Brandon Bess and Veerasammy Permaul for the Super Kings and Titans respectively, those who were chosen in their place would want to give of their best today.
