Unavailable police file stalls Uzi arms cache trial

THE trial of 25-year-old Timothy Sampson, who was, allegedly, found with a cache of weapons,  including an Israeli-made Uzi semi-automatic rifle, was stalled Wednesday because the police file was not available. The report was made by Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, when the case was called before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at Reliance Court, Canje, Berbice.
Consequently, the adjournment was taken until May 11.
The defendant was charged, since September 24, 2010, with being in illegal possession of a .32 pistol that was unearthed from  the rafters of his home.
He is also facing charges that:
* on September 21, 2010, he resisted arrest by Police Constables Gladwin  and James, peace
officers acting in the execution of their duties;
*  he resisted Constable Darrel Ramsay, a peace officer who was executing his duties;
* he had possession of two AK-47 rifles, a 12-gauge shotgun, an Uzi semi-automatic rifle and
* he had possession of three live 12-gauge cartridges without the relevant licences.
Dayaram told the Curt that, while Sampson was on bail in another case, he committed the other offences and the statute governing firearm charges is specific that bail be denied.
