Main witness still testifying in treason case

THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the joint treason charge against former Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve, Leonard Wharton, serving Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Major Bruce Munroe and his wife, Carol-Ann, resumed  Wednesday before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. The main witness in the case, Quincy Critchlow continued his testimony with Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack and Sonia Joseph, from her Chambers, prosecuting for the State.

The proceedings were adjourned to April 11, with the witness still testifying.
Wharton and the Munroes are accused of having, between December 1, 2009 and December 16, 2010, plotted to level war within Guyana and force the President out of office.

The charge for the capital offence is linked to the Georgetown arson at the Ministry of Health in Brickdam, attempts at Richard Ishmael Secondary School and the Supreme Court and the gun attack at Brickdam Police Station, in July 2009.
