Sparta ‘channa bomb’ attack…

Two in custody, as victim fights for her life TWO persons are in custody as police intensify their investigations into last Tuesday morning’s channa bomb attack at Sparta on the Essequibo Coast.

Reports are that the 25-year-old victim has been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a critical condition.

Relatives say the mother of one is suffering from severe burns from her neck to her feet and is battling for her life.

Police have so far questioned several other persons at Bamboo Dam, Sparta, in connection with the incident.

According to unconfirmed reports, the victim, who hails from an Amerindian Village in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), had left her husband and come to live with her lover at Bamboo Dam, Sparta. The lover, too, suffered injury, but not as serious as the woman.

The incident has left residents of Sparta in shock, and several suggestions in their minds as to what might have triggered the attack on the young couple.
One suggestion is jealousy.
However police are following every lead in their investigation. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
