AFC launches ambitious ‘Action Plan’

-premised on supremacy of Rule of Law
THE POLITICAL party, Alliance for Change (AFC) yesterday launched its ‘Action Plan for Guyana’ at the Ocean View Convention Centre, Liliendaal, with leader, Raphael Trotman positing that the proposed strategy can help them set the stage for an alternative development vision.
The Plan is premised on one core principle: That the development of a just society is founded on the supremacy of the Rule of Law and the belief that all persons are equal.
Building on this, the AFC has as its goals, as outlined in the Plan: Healing and reconciliation; liberal democracy and good governance; industrialization and jobs; fair taxes; a safe and secure society; a functional multi-ethnic society; moral rehabilitation; and education for a better future.
According to Trotman, the Plan focuses on 12 “foundations for progress” based on a careful examination of Guyana’s politics.
Those principles are: A Private Sector driven economy, and industrialization: more jobs, better pay; Personal Security: Less crime; Equal Opportunity: One Nation; Political Reforms: One Destiny; Youth: Our future; Gender Equality: Our women, Our Foundation; Hinterland: The New Frontier; Diaspora Integration: Bring back more talent; The Poor, the Elderly and the Disabled: Our heritage of help; Social Transformation: Dignity for all; Education Upgrade; and Public Service Reform.
Party presidential candidate, Khemraj Ramjattan, in his statement in the Action Plan, opines that development for Guyana means economical, political and social transformation in the shortest period of time.
“This transformation implies not only rapid economic growth, but also political and economic freedoms, eradication of poverty, sustainable and eco-friendly use of resources, access to opportunities for all ethnic groups and gender equality,” he posited.
Adding her bit to the discussion, prime ministerial candidate, Sheila Holder, contends that with their Action Plan for Guyana, the AFC will be able to unlock Guyana’s rich potential for the betterment of all, not just today, but well into the next generation.
