For Christmas arrangement…

Police benefit from timely acquisition of 20 motorcycles
THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) patrols will be strengthened, with the addition to its fleet yesterday, of 20 new ‘Scrambler’ motorcycles.
Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee, handed them over at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Drill Square, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
He told the gathering that the ceremony is another manifestation of Government’s commitment to increase the mobile capacity of the GPF, in order to ensure that its members are capable of executing their duties throughout the length and breadth of Guyana.
Rohee said, in ‘A’ Division, the bikes will be used to fight, prevent and detect crimes and that will go a far way in keeping criminal elements at bay.
He exhorted the ranks to conduct themselves in a manner that is pleasing at all times, especially in the execution of their duties and abide by the Force’s standing orders, because they will be under constant public scrutiny.
Rohee also requested that the motorbikes be used for the intended purpose.
In response, while accepting the machines, Police Commissioner Henry Greene said he was very happy to receive them as the gifts enhance the mobility of the GPF.
He said the motorbikes will move faster in heavy traffic and provide an easier way of getting around quickly and access rough terrain as in the backdams.
Assistant Commissioner, Krishna Lekhraj, confirmed that the motorcycles will go a far way in strengthening patrols in rural and urban areas.
He said the presentation is a big boost to their current arrangement as it relates to Christmas policing and the motorcycles acquisition is timely and would better equip the GPF for crime fighting.
