Better GWI delivery to several Essequibo Coast villages

APPROXIMATELY 7,000 people, living between the villages of Adventure and Good Hope on the Essequibo Coast, will benefit from an improved flow of potable water through their taps from January 2011. Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) Divisional Manager at Anna Regina, Mr. Ravindra Dass, said the borehole of a new well at Warousi is located at a depth of 230 feet and hourly production will be increased.
He said work is currently in progress on the discharge pipe and fencing of the compound.
Singh also reported that drilling has been completed on a $52M well at Lima, located in the compound of the water treatment plant, at a depth of 430 feet.
It will serve as a back-up to the existing one at Lima that is supplying the treatment plant.
Contractor for both projects, Nabi Construction, is making the necessary preparations to install a well screen and casing at Lima and that should be done by January, too. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
