AN INTREPID businessman shot dead one of two assailants during an attempted robbery Friday night, though he himself was injured during the exchange of gunfire with the criminals.
Dead is Drepaul Persaud, better known as ‘Deportee’, who, according to the police, was shot in the head at around 21:30h on the night in question during a confrontation with Blankenburg businessman, Ryan Boodhoo, a licensed firearm holder.

The police say that Persaud, who hails from No.2 Canal on the West Bank Demerara, and an accomplice, who is now on the run and is the one who had the gun, approached Boohoo and his wife, Jenny, outside the entrance of their Blankenburg home at Boodhoo Housing Scheme, on the West Coast Demerara.
The Boodhoos, the police say, were returning home in their vehicle when the incident occurred. The husband was struck in his right thigh when the bandits opened fire on him.
The lawmen report that they have since recovered a white Toyota Carina AT 192 motorcar, PJJ 1849, from the premises of a Bar at Blankenburg, and that the vehicle was parked there earlier by the bandits.
Persaud’s body is currently at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) mortuary, while Boodhoo is a patient at a city hospital, the police say.
Police are continuing investigations into the matter.
