… Ross snares six for 49 for TSC
GEORGETOWN Cricket Club’s (GCC) trio of batsmen, Ricardo Jadunauth, Vishal ‘Cheesy’ Singh and Ramnaresh Sarwan all struck centuries on the first day of the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Carib Beer Heroes Cup first division competition yesterday.
Also stealing the spotlight was Transport Sports Club’s (TSC) left-arm orthodox spinner Kevin Ross who grabbed 6-49 as his team dismissed Police Sports Club for a paltry 105, but were bowled out for 99 in reply..
At the GCC ground, Everest Cricket Club (ECC) won the toss and asked their host to take first strike, in which they rattled up a massive 393-3, thanks to Jadunauth and Sarwan who were unbeaten on 136 and 105 respectively, while Singh made 109 before he was dismissed.
Having seen the demise of the pugnacious Wasim Haslim 31 (6×4) and national middle order batsman Leon Johnson (9) leaving their team on 73-2, Jadunauth and Singh joined forces to add 202 for the third wicket before the latter was caught at the wicket by Joseph Perry off Surendra Hiralall (1-47).
Prior to his dismissal, Singh struck 16 fours in his 109, while Jadunauth and Sarwan struck a total of 22 fours and seven sixes in their unbeaten innings, with the former hitting 14 fours and one six and Sarwan eight fours and six sixes.
In their reply, ECC were 42 without loss with Perry on 31 that includes three fours and Ryan Ramdass 11.
At the PSC ground, the home team rebounded from Ross’ spell to place their opponents under a spell of their own as they take a five-run lead into their second innings at the start of play today.
Pint-size Pernell London struck three fours in his top score of 42 and received support from Rawle Browne and Vishal Jaigobin who both made 13 for PSC, against the bowling of Ross and Carl Rambharose who took 2-10 in support of Ross.
When TSC replied, only Azim Azeez who struck two sixes and one four in his unbeaten 24 and Marc Nicholson 18 offered resistance to the bowling of Jason Heyliger (4-23), Jaigobin (3-47) and left-arm fast bowler Andre Stoll who took 2-24 for PSC.
Both matches continue today with the action set to commence at 09:30 h. (Calvin Roberts)
