THE Rupununi female football squad trounced the Linden female team to stretch their lead in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Women’s League at the Mackenzie Sports Complex (MSC) Ground on Tuesday.
A massive 8-0 whipping was inflicted on Linden women and they remain in third with seven points while Rupununi moved on to 15 points in the top position ahead of Georgetown who have 11 points.
The match saw Fioan Sandy and Urselene Primus record hat-tricks while being supported by Sonia Griffith and Helen Milton.
Sandy scored in the second, 18th and 24th minutes, Primus – eighth, 14th and 22nd minutes, while Griffith and Milton were successful in the 67th and 69th minutes respectively.
In the National Super League Milerock edged out their arch rival Bakellwell Topp XX 2-1 to climb back up to second place in the points standing.
Alester Johnson found the net twice, scoring in the 19th and 28th minutes for Milerock while Travis Waterton scored Topp XX’s lone goal via a penalty in the 32nd minute.
Meanwhile, Bakewell Topp XX slipped to eighth place (12 points) with a goal difference inferior to Buxton United who also have 12 points.
The tournaments continue this weekend with Georgetown meeting Bartica at 18:00 h at the Bartica Community Centre ground tomorrow in the Women’s League while the Guyana Defence Force collide with Liquid Gold tomorrow at 20:00 h.
On Sunday GFC comes alive with Seawall and Topp XX meeting at 18:00 h then Victoria Kings and Milerock clash at 20:00 h.
