Guyanese born Aasieya Husain crowned Miss India-DC 2010

GUYANESE born 18-year-old Aasieya Husain once again made headlines in the United States as she walked away with the crown for the 2010 Miss India DC Pageant last Saturday evening. The competition was held at George Washington University at the Betts Theatre in Washington DC. The contestants from various parts of the Washington, Virginia and Maryland Metro area vied for the title of the 2010 Miss India DC. The pageant consisted of 4 segments – Evening Gown, Indian Dress, Talent and Q&A. Ms Husain wore a beautiful gold and burgundy Indian Lehenga Choli, with dazzling stones and adorned with elegant matching necklace, bangles and earrings.
Her Evening gown was fashionably long and elegant with spaghetti straps and sequenced bodice filled with rhinestone detail with a long flowing trail at the back. Aasieya danced to Aaja Nachle song, with a stunning gold sequence top and a full tulle skirt with gold trimmings. She wore matching pink accessories to complete this outfit.
A first year student at Marymount University, she is pursuing her Undergraduate in Business Administration. Ms Husain is passionate about performing and is volunteering for Nonprofit Organizations in her spare time.
The panel of judges for the competition included the famous Housewives of DC – Michaele Sahali, Manan Singh Katahora of JMD Creations, Anita – a Businesswoman, and Neelima Mehra – TV Host for Asia TV and other well known representatives in the community. The show was organized and promoted by Neena Bhaskar and Sibtain Kazmi, who has been involved in this event for the last 16 years.
Aasieya’s hobbies include Acting, Modelling, Dancing and Shopping. She loves the adrenalin rush of being on the runway and in front of the camera. Aasieya likes to travel and meeting new people and learning about their cultures.
Aasieya entered the Miss India DC Pageant because of her passion for fashion but more importantly because this pageant provides her the opportunity to showcase her culture as well as meet new friends.
Aasieya will compete next year for the Miss India USA in New York.  Ms. Husain is also the reigning 2010 Miss Teen Virginia Top Model.
Aasieya gives special thanks to her mom Salena Azaad (Lux) and Aunt Zalena Khan (Zel) for all their love and guidance. Also to Archana from ‘Born to Dance Studio’ who did the choreography for her dance and all her families and friends for their support and love.
