Accused refused bail on 13 fraud charges

Motor vehicles sales scam…
ROBERT Allan Gates, 53, of Lot 30 Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was yesterday refused bail on 13 fraud charges.
The indictable offences were alleged when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, following Police investigations into a motor vehicles sales scam.
It is alleged that the accused:

* on March 24, 2010, obtained $800,000 from Ato Mitchelle, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to deliver a motor vehicle knowing that to be false;

* on April 19, obtained $700,000 from Jermine Mason, under the same falser pretence;

* the same day, took $660,000 from Thadius Khannai;

* on May 7, received $500,000 from Mark Lewis;

* on May 17, collected $600,000 from Ovid Ad;

* on May 20, obtained $500,000 from Chandrika Arjoon;

* between July 13 and 21, took $800,000 from Christopher Mc Adam;

* on July 17, received $400,000 from Romeo Barrington;

* between July 21 and 26, took $500,000 from Yonette Moses;

* on June 21, took $500,000 from Imran Ali;

* on July 30, obtained $100,000 from Delson Torrington;

* on August 5, obtained $500,000 from Urion Da Silva and

* on August 18, obtained $500,000 from Seeranie on the same false premise.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, successfully objected to Gates being granted pre-trial freedom and was given September 7 as the date when statements will be served on the remanded prisoner.
