Shot Crabwood Creek man cannot remember how incident took place

– says he is suffering from amnesia since being shot
A MAN who was shot in the chest last Sunday at Crabwood Creek, Berbice said he is suffering from amnesia and therefore cannot remember what took place during the shooting incident.

The incident reportedly occurred around 11:30 hrs last Sunday morning when Rickford Joseph, 37, of Crabwood Creek sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, while he was in his yard.

The victim claims he has no recollection of how he was shot, why he was shot or who shot him. All he can remember is “a gun went off” and then he became unconscious.

Joseph said everything happened so fast that he could not say who shot him and in which direction the bullet came from.

The man regained consciousness while being treated at the Skeldon Hospital. Later he was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and is in a stable condition but still claims he cannot remember anything.

According to reports from residents living within the vicinity, the victim’s wife was in police custody assisting with the investigation into the ‘mystery’ shooting.

She was released the following day of the incident, Monday. This newspaper was informed that the woman’s version to the Police was that there was a robbery Sunday midday at her home and she was the only one present with her husband at the time of the shooting. She was taken to the police for further details on the incident that took place but declined to give any other information.

There are also several other versions of the incident coming from the public. One was that the police reportedly mentioned that Rickford was dumping solid waste (garbage) in his backyard when a bullet went into his chest. The second version was that a relative claimed that ‘a stray bullet came out from nowhere’ while he was handling some plumbing fixtures to his outdoor sink and hit him in the chest. The third version was that Joseph was shot by a relative during a family dispute.

Residents in the area have mentioned that Joseph’s relatives refused to give more information on the incident and said that this is a family matter and they did not want the shooting to be released to the media.
A representative from Chronicle went to Joseph’s house on Wednesday finding it locked with two guard dogs protecting the yard.
