REMANDED prisoner Bishram Emmamudin, who hurled a book at Magistrate Geeta Chandan Persid-Edmond in New Amsterdam Remand Centre, Berbice, on July 2, 2009, will know his fate next Friday. Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, before whom he appeared yesterday, postponed sentencing him in the New Amsterdam Court.
The missile throwing incident occurred when Emmamudin faced charges of rape, robbery under arms and unlawful possession of ammunition and was denied bail by Magistrate Persid-Edmond.
The prisoner was being escorted away on remand when he took out the book titled ‘Deceit of Lucifer’ from his pants waist and threw it at the magistrate, missing her by a few inches but landing on the desk in front of her.
The unarmed orderly had left the courtroom to assist another policeman escorting prisoners when the attack took place.
Police ranks had attempted to hurriedly take Emmamudin away but Magistrate Persid-Edmond immediately summoned him and told him he had acted in contempt of and misconducted himself in the face of the Court.
